Tarot and Oracle (Divination) Cards

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

Divination Cards are cards that are used to connect with the Divine or Spiritual. The reader will pull cards from the deck and use them intuitively to interpret meanings from them. There are 2 different types of card decks used. Some prefer one over the other, others will use both to get deeper meanings.

Tarot: First seen in the 1500’s as a card game in Italy called Tarocchini. In the 1800’s they began to be used for divination purposes. The decks always have 78 cards and are divided into Major Arcana representing significant life events and/or figures in a person’s life and The Minor Arcana, refer to more everyday matters and influences.

Oracle Cards: Also a form of divination card they differ from Tarot in that they are not uniform in themes or the number of cards in a deck. The card reader chooses the deck that intuitively or visually appeals to them. While oracle cards come with booklets that help to interpret the meaning the reader is also freer to interpret the cards intuitively.
